Brent Shanks is a distinguished professor and the Steffenson Faculty Chair at Iowa State University, where they also direct the Center for Biorenewable Chemicals. They co-founded Pyrone Systems Inc. in 2021 and serve as a board member for AgCertain Industries, Inc. Since their earlier roles at Shell from 1997 to 1999, Brent has held various academic positions, including associate professor and the director of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals. Brent earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University.
