Birgit Gielen

Birgit Gielen currently serves as Teamverantwoordelijke Themabeheer in the Afdeling Terreinbeheer at Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos since May 2024. Prior to this role, Birgit Gielen was the Director at InterMutualistisch Agentschap (IMA) - Agence InterMutualiste (AIM) from February 2015 to May 2024, having transitioned from Program Manager during the period 2015-2020, managing over 30 projects and a team of data professionals. Earlier experience includes a position as a researcher in the R&D department at Christelijke Mutualiteit (CM) from November 2007 to February 2015, and postdoctoral research at Universiteit Antwerpen focused on plant ecology and ecophysiology between October 1999 and November 2007. Birgit Gielen holds a PhD in Biology with a specialization in Plant Ecology and Ecophysiology from the University of Antwerp, along with a Licentiate degree in Biology and a Candidate degree in Biology from Limburgs Universitair Centrum.
