Tom Andries is a seasoned environmental professional with extensive experience in biodiversity protection and restoration projects in Belgium. Since April 2016, Tom has served as a Project Coordinator at Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos, leading initiatives such as the LIFE B4B project focused on enhancing biodiversity through four key pillars. Previously, Tom worked as a Monitoring Expert with NEEMO and ASTRALE GEIE, overseeing LIFE+ Nature projects in the Benelux for the European Commission. Additional roles include Programme Manager, where Tom co-drafted management plans for Natura 2000 sites in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Brussels region, and Nature Conservation Consultant at Natuurpunt, managing regional conservation efforts. Tom holds a Master's degree in Biology from the University of Antwerp and has also contributed as a part-time lecturer in nature conservation and management.

Meerdaalwoud en Heverleebos tellen jaarlijks meer dan 750.000 bezoekers. Om te voorkomen dat de verschillende bezoekers sporen nalaten in ecologisch zwakkere gebieden is het bos opgedeeld in zones. Zo zijn er meer recreatievoorzieningen ingepland in het Heverleebos en in het noorden van het Meerdaalwoud dan in de ecologisch meer kwetsbare zuidrand.
