Dr. Karen Smith

Advisory Board Member at Agile World

Karen Smith is a British educator and administrator who has worked in higher education for over 25 years. Karen is currently an advisory board member at Agile World, and they previously served as academic leader, deputy head, and lecturer at London Metropolitan University's Cass School of Art. Smith has also taught at the University of West London and the University of East London.

Smith began their career in 1992 as a film lecturer at the University of West London. Karen then moved to the University of East London, where they taught film and media for four years. In 1996, they joined London Metropolitan University as a lecturer in the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design.

At London Metropolitan University, Smith was responsible for developing and validating BA and MA courses in film, music, and animation. Karen also managed and organised the introduction of studio production teaching, organised student screenings at the BFI, and supported student competition entries. In addition, they served as deputy and acting head of the Media School.

Smith has been recognised for their work in education, receiving the Higher Education Academy's Teaching Fellowship in 2006. In 2010, they were awarded a Principal Lecturer title by London Metropolitan University.

Karen Smith completed a PhD in film exhibition history at King's College London. Karen also holds a BSc (Hons) in anthropology from UCL and a BA (Hons) in film and drama from the University of Reading.
