Phillips co-founded Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) in 1992 with the aim of creating a company focused on organizing the best life sciences and biomedical R&D conferences. He has led company strategy for expanding the depth of topic coverage, the creation of leading event brands, the addition of non-conference business lines, and more recently, diversification related to conferences in the rechargeable battery, artificial intelligence, and internet of things fields. This diversification led to the establishment of Cambridge Innovation Institute (CII) as the new parent company of CHI as well as the new subsidiary Cambridge Enertech (CET).
