Sowmya Ashokkumar

Sowmya Ashokkumar is an experienced educator, playwright, and screenwriter with a professional background spanning various roles in education and the performing arts. Currently serving as an Educator at Compass Education Group since October 2019, Sowmya specializes in preparing high school juniors and seniors for standardized tests and Advanced Placement courses. As a freelance playwright and screenwriter since August 2013, Sowmya focuses on narratives that represent women of color, queer individuals, and immigrants. Additionally, Sowmya has a long history of tutoring students from 3rd grade through college, editing essays, and teaching at Carnegie Mellon University. With a Master of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon and a Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature from UC Berkeley, Sowmya's work emphasizes creativity, social awareness, and the power of storytelling.
