Sylvain Bertrand

Sylvain Bertrand has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Sylvain is a co-founder and former COO and CEO of Airex Energy, a leading climate solutions provider specializing in transforming biomass waste into carbonized products. Sylvain also held the position of Vice-President of Corporate Development at Airex Energy.

Bertrand served as a board member for the CRIBIQ Consortium de recherche et d'innovation en bioprocédés industriels au Québec from 2012 to 2018. Sylvain was also a board member for CanBio (Canadian Bioenergy Association) from 2010 to 2015, where they contributed to the promotion and development of bioenergy in Canada.

Prior to their entrepreneurial ventures, Bertrand worked as a Senior Advisor at AbitibiBowater, Inc., where they focused on renewable energy and biofuel production. Sylvain was responsible for identifying growth opportunities, assessing potential business expansions, and developing corporate initiatives.

Bertrand has also worked as a Principal/Director of Investments at Multiple Capital Inc., actively managing a portfolio of venture capital companies. Sylvain provided support to entrepreneurs in business development, financing, strategy, and divestments.

Earlier in their career, Bertrand worked as an Investment Manager at Innovatech Montréal and an Energy Engineer at Siemens, where they conducted feasibility studies for energy performance contracting in industrial facilities.

Sylvain began their career as a Project Manager at CMA Chalifour Marcotte et ass., performing energy management studies in commercial and industrial facilities and attending international trade fairs.

Bertrand also gained experience as a trainee at Exxon Chemical.

Sylvain Bertrand's education history includes three degrees in various fields. From 2000 to 2001, they pursued an MBA degree specializing in Finance and Entrepreneurship at HEC Montréal. Prior to that, from 1992 to 1993, they obtained a Master's degree in Energy from ENSEEIHT. Earlier in their educational journey, from 1986 to 1991, they completed a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal.
