Evandro Gurgel Valente has extensive work experience in the fields of engineering, robotics, and innovation.
From 2023, they have been working as the Chief Engineer and Product Innovation Lead at AIRO (The AIRO Group).
Valente founded Airgility in 2014 and served as the Founder and CTO until an unspecified date. At Airgility, they focused on implementing AI-based and traditional algorithms in aerial and ground robotic systems. Evandro Gurgel also built an entrepreneurial intellectual patent portfolio, earning national and international specifications in design, utility, and trademarks.
In 2022, Valente became an Advisory Board Member for Education Programs in Robotics at the Maryland Robotics Center.
From 2006 to 2019, Valente worked at the University of Maryland as a Professional Track Lecturer and a Keystone Program Founding Member. Evandro Gurgel taught courses in engineering design and served as a Principle Investigator and Inventor for the HorseSHU UAS project, which received grants from the Maryland Innovation Initiative.
Valente worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Maritime Applied Physics Corporation from 2014 to 2015, and as an Aerospace Engineering Consultant at MD Advanced Development Lab - University Research Foundation from 2013 to 2014.
Prior to that, Valente was a Materials and Process Engineer at Belcan Engineering from 2012 to 2013, where they focused on cost reduction and material review processes in the aviation industry.
From 2003 to 2008, Valente worked as a Vehicle Design Engineer and Composite Manufacturing Project Manager at the Composites Research (CORE) Laboratory at the University of Maryland. Evandro Gurgel co-led engineering programs and worked with Dr. Darryll Pines, who was then the Dean of Engineering.
Valente's early experience includes working as a Wind Tunnel Operator and Test Model Maker for Aerodynamic Testing at the Glenn L. Martin Wind Tunnel at the University of Maryland from 2001 to 2003, where they conducted aerodynamic tests for various companies.
Evandro Gurgel Valente pursued their education in a chronological sequence, starting with their enrollment at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania from 1997 to 2000. During this time, they obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, Majoring in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Continuing their academic journey, they then joined the University of Maryland from 2000 to 2003, where they completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Aerospace Engineering. Finally, Evandro pursued further specialization by pursuing a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland from 2003 to 2006.
