Erica Thomas has a wealth of professional experience in the education sector. Erica began their career in 2007 as a School Leadership Team Representative, Lead Teacher, and Cooperating Teacher at the Manhattan Center for Science & Mathematics. In this role, they were responsible for classroom management, writing the school's Comprehensive Education Plan, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and administration. In 2012, they moved to the High School of Fashion Industries, where they acted as an ESL Professional Development Leader, Teacher, and Service-Learning Coordinator. Here, they spearheaded the ESL Professional Development program and managed student advising, staffing, and ESL programs. Most recently, in 2018, they joined the NYC Department of Education as a Literacy & Language Assessment Program Manager, where they oversaw the development and facilitation of World Language exams and devised, coordinated, and facilitated in-person and virtual workshops. In 2022, they began working as a Product Manager at Akademos, Inc.
Erica Thomas has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, which they obtained between 2000 and 2005. Erica then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language/ESL Language Instructor, Spanish from New York University between 2006 and 2007. Additionally, they have obtained three professional certifications from the New York State Education Department, in ELA (7-12), English as a Second Language (K-12), and Spanish (7-12).
