Damien Mander

Damien Mander is the CEO and founder of Akashinga, a non-profit organization established in October 2009 that focuses on ecological stability and the long-term protection of large-scale wilderness areas by empowering local communities. Prior to founding Akashinga, Mander served as a team member for Aegis Defence Services from September 2007 to February 2008, providing close protection and reconnaissance for US Army reconstruction operations. Mander also worked as a project manager for the Iraq Special Police Training Academy with BLP International from June 2005 to September 2007, and held a role in the Tactical Assault Group (East) with the 2nd Commando Regiment from November 2003 to June 2005, engaging in counter-terrorism efforts within Australia. Mander's military background includes a position as a clearance diver in the Royal Australian Navy from June 1999 to December 2003, where qualifications include a diploma in salvage diving and a Certificate IV in training.
