John Thompson

John Thompson is a highly experienced attorney and partner specializing in bankruptcy and restructuring, currently leading the Bankruptcy & Restructuring Group at Akerman LLP since August 2021. Prior to this role, John served as a partner at McGuireWoods LLP and worked in various capacities within the financial restructuring and bankruptcy litigation sectors at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, LLP, Weil Gotshal and Manges, and Greenberg Traurig. John is a veteran of the US Army, having achieved the rank of Captain as an army aviation officer, and has received honors such as the Meritorious Service Medal. Academic qualifications include a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law and a Master’s degree in International Relations and Affairs from American University, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from Bucknell University.
