Charles Saunders, PMP, CSM has over 40 years of experience in the field of program and project management. Charles began their career in 1976 as a Principal at A.T. Kearney, where they were a leader in building the Environment, Health & Safety group from a niche-market competitor to a diversified player in commercial and governmental markets. In 1991, they became the Director of the Policy & Communications Group at DPRA, where they developed and implemented program management for a multi-year, $40-million EPA mission support contract dealing with RCRA and CERCLA enforcement policy. Charles recruited 70 consultants in two years to scale up capabilities, delivering range and depth of technical/managerial resources awarded high marks from headquarters clients. Charles also founded a successful policy and communications consulting practice, leading the team to annual revenues of $5 million to $6 million per year.
In 1993, Charles Saunders became the General Manager of GRAM, Inc. and R.J. Miranda & Co. Charles then became an Independent Contractor in 2002, specializing in technology planning, investment control, and environmental quality management. In 2004, they began working for Portfolio Management Consulting, LLC as a Program Manager & Senior Consultant, advising Executive & Leadership teams directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Office of Information Services. Charles then joined ActioNet, Inc. as a Program Manager, where they directed an ITIL-based service improvement program integral to a five-year database engineering support contract with the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs, Office of Consular Systems and Technology (CA/CST). In 2016, Charles Saunders began working for Akira Technologies, Inc. as a Program Manager, where they are currently managing content migration for the HHS Assistant Secretary for Planning & Evaluation (ASPE) public-facing website. Charles is working with content providers, end users, and other stakeholders to refine acceptance criteria, upgrade graphic design, site navigation, and information architecture to improve user experience. Charles is now automating the content migration process through application of DevOps tools and techniques adapted to support open-source content management system.
Charles Saunders obtained their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics from Princeton University between 1970 and 1974. In December 2015, they obtained their PMP certification from the Project Management Institute. In January 2017, they obtained their Certified ScrumMaster certification from the Scrum Alliance.
