Chris Tarapata has extensive work experience in the medical device industry. Chris currently holds the position of VP Platform Lead, Device Development at Akouos since 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Takeda as Head of Implantable and Specialized Devices from 2019 to 2021. Chris also served as the Principal Device Development Lead at Shire from 2017 to 2019.
Before joining Shire, Chris worked as a Consultant and Owner at TERM Consulting from 2015 to 2016. Chris also held the position of Director at MitraSpan from 2015 to 2016.
Chris's career started at Intrinsic Therapeutics, Inc. in 2001, where they held various roles. Chris served as the Director of Operations from 2008 to 2014, overseeing multiple responsibilities such as establishing and leading a cadaver training program, reducing cost of goods sold, and managing production activities. Chris also served as the Director of R&D, Product Development from 2005 to 2008, leading the development and launch of several implant and instrument sets. Prior to that, they worked as an R&D Manager, Implants from 2003 to 2005, and as an R&D Engineer from 2001 to 2003.
Chris's earlier experience includes working at Guidant as an R&D Engineer II from 1999 to 2001, and as an R&D Engineer from 1997 to 1999.
Chris Tarapata attended Northwestern University from 1992 to 1997, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. In February 2021, they also obtained a certification in Adaptability & Resilience from McKinsey & Company.
