Jena Resner MD began their work experience in 2004 as a Consultant for the Annie E. Casey Foundation, where they worked until 2008. In 2013, they joined the California Medical Association/Institute for Medical Quality (CMA/IMQ) as an Administrator for the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program, and remained in that role until 2018. More recently, in 2020, they became the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Coordinator for Alameda Health System.

Jena Resner MD began their education journey in 1984 when they enrolled at UC San Diego. Jena completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1987. In 1989, Jena Resner MD further pursued their academic career by attending Tulane University School of Medicine, where they obtained their MD in Medicine in 1992. Following this, they joined the University of California, San Francisco - School of Medicine for their Pediatric Residency, which they completed in 1995.
