Shaleka Carter has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Shaleka began their career in 1997 at St. Peter's Community Adult Day Care Center, where they served as the Community Relations Director for 15 years until 2012. Shaleka then joined Alameda Health System in 2012, working in Health Information Management until 2014. In 2013, Carter became the Owner/Operator of All In One Adult Day Care Center, a position they held until 2017. Afterward, they transitioned to Alameda Health System as a Community Health Outreach Worker, where they currently hold a position.

Shaleka Carter's education history includes earning an Associate of Arts degree in Sociology from Chabot College between 2017 and 2020. Shaleka then pursued further education and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work at San Francisco State University, which they are expected to complete between 2020 and 2023.
