Stephen Gebert

Vice President, Enterprise Security, Network Management, And Facilities at Alaska Communications

Stephen Gebert has a diverse and extensive work experience history. Stephen began their career in the US Navy in 1984, serving as a Naval Flight Officer until 2005. From 1991 to 1994, they worked at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Four (VX-4) as the F-14 Air-to-Ground Test Director and Special Programs Department Head. Stephen then moved on to VF-143, where they held the positions of Maintenance and Ops Department Heads from 1994 to 1997, responsible for planning and operations of a Navy F-14 Fighter squadron.

In 2000, Gebert joined U.S. Alaskan Command as the Deputy Director of the Command, Control, Communications, Computer Systems Directorate until 2005. Stephen then transitioned to Alaska Communications, where they held various roles of increasing responsibility. Stephen served as the Director of the Program Management Office from 2005 to 2009, followed by the Director of Service Delivery from 2009 to 2011. From 2011 to 2012, they held the position of Director of the Enterprise Risk Management and Facilities, responsible for enterprise risk management, facilities management, and capital improvements.

Gebert then became the Director of the Enterprise Security from 2015 to 2019, leading a team in charge of cyber security, breach response, business continuity, emergency management, and physical security. In 2019, they were promoted to the Senior Director of Enterprise Security, Business Continuity/Emergency Management, and Facilities Maintenance, overseeing these areas until 2021. Currently, they hold the position of Vice President of Enterprise Security, Facilities, and Network Operations Center at Alaska Communications, leading teams responsible for cyber/information security, physical security, business continuity, emergency management, safety, and facilities management.

Throughout their career, Gebert has also taken on additional roles such as serving as the Facilities Security Officer (FSO) for government security clearance programs. Stephen maintains a current security clearance.

Stephen Gebert is currently pursuing an MS in Project Management at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Prior to that, they obtained an MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 1998. In 1991, they attended the United States Air Force Test Pilot School, where they earned a degree in Flight Test Navigation. Stephen's undergraduate education took place from 1980 to 1984 at the University of Minnesota, where they received a BS in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics. Additionally, they hold a certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
