Valerie Herrera

Vice President Of Support Services at Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium

Valerie Herrera has a diverse work experience in the field of health and safety. Valerie started their career as a Hull Technician in the United States Navy from 1994 to 1997. After that, they worked as a Field Environmental Health Officer for YKHC, where they provided guidance and expertise in environmental health for healthcare providers, operators, and community members in 52 villages. Valerie also managed the rabies prevention program and supervised training programs for operators.

In 2008, Valerie joined the Indian Health Service as an Institutional Environmental Health Resident, where they gained further experience in this field. Valerie then worked for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium as an Institutional Environmental Health Consultant, conducting health and safety surveys and providing consultative services.

Valerie's career in health and safety continued as they became the Manager of Consortium Safety and Security for the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium. In this role, they managed the environment of care, safety, security, and emergency management programs for over 21 healthcare sites.

Valerie later joined the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as a Commander and Institutional Environmental Health Officer, where they supported the mission of protecting and promoting the health of the nation. Valerie retired from this position in 2022.

Their most recent role is Vice President of Support Services at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, where they oversee various areas including environment of care, safety, emergency management, and security technology.

Throughout their career, Valerie has demonstrated their expertise in safety and environmental management in complex medical settings and has been responsible for ensuring the safety of patients, employees, and visitors.

Valerie Herrera completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health/Biology from Missouri Southern State University, from the year 2001 to 2004. Following this, they pursued further education and obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Uniformed Services University in the year 2008 to 2009, specializing in the field of Public Health.
