Der Verein wurde 1989 als BG Charlottenburg gegründet, aus der 1991 der ALBA BERLIN Basketballteam e.V. hervor ging. Zum 1. Juli 2006 wurde die Profiabteilung des Vereins in die neu gegründete ALBA BERLN Basketballteam GmbH ausgegliedert. Gesellschafter der GmbH sind der Verein und die ALBA Group, die seit 1991 enger Partner und Namensgeber der Albatrosse ist. Seit der Gründung vor mehr 30 Jahren hat sich ALBA BERLIN zur bekanntesten Basketballmarke Deutschlands neben Dirk Nowitzki entwickelt. Die Albatrosse, die ihre Heimspiele in der hochmodernen Mercedes-Benz Arena (Kapazität: 14.500) austragen, haben 11 Meisterschaften, 11 Pokalsiege und 1995 den europäischen Korac-Cup feiern können. The ALBA BERLIN men's team currently competes in the German easyCredit BBL and the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Not only is ALBA BERLIN successful on the male professional level, but it also has the largest youth and women’s department in Germany that is being regularly awarded for their athletic achievements and excellent development standards. Cooperating with more than 160 schools, universities and other educational key players in and outside of Berlin, makes the club an important role player in society.
