Gavin Setzen has extensive work experience in the field of otolaryngology and healthcare advocacy. Gavin has been the President of Albany ENT & Allergy Services, PC since 1997. In addition to this role, Gavin has held various positions at Albany Medical Center, including Clinical Associate Professor and roles in the medical college and division of otolaryngology. Gavin has also served as a Fellowship Examiner for the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) and as a Committee Member and Advisory Council Governor for the Medical Society of the State of New York. Gavin has been involved in various roles at the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), including serving as a Governor and Legislative Representative, CHEER Clinical Research Network Investigator, and on the ENT PAC Board of Advisors. Gavin has also been a member of the Board of Directors for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC-CT) and the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, Gavin has served on the Board of Directors for St. Peter's Health Partners and the Credentials Committee for Capital District Physicians' Health Plan, Inc. Gavin has also held leadership positions within the New York State Society of Otolaryngology (NYSSO), including serving as the Immediate Past President.

Gavin Setzen pursued their education at various institutions, beginning with their attendance at Highlands North Boy's High School in Johannesburg, South Africa from 1977 to 1981. During their time there, they achieved Matriculation. Following this, they enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1982 and completed their Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degree in the field of Medicine in 1987.
