Paul Godman

Paul Godman has had a successful and varied career in the energy and environmental sectors. Paul began their career at Morrow Environmental Consultants, where they managed numerous contaminated site assessment projects and played a key role in the start-up of a new office. Paul then moved on to TransAlta, where they served as a Water Resources Planner and later as the Manager of Sales and Marketing for the Carbon Offsets Portfolio. In these roles, they developed marketing strategies, identified target markets, and completed several GHG emission reduction purchase arrangements. Paul then joined Encana Corporation as the Manager of the EnCana Environmental Innovation Fund, where they led the design and growth of the strategic investment program focused on cleantech ventures. Paul built a strong portfolio of investments and established valuable relationships within the cleantech community. Next, Paul worked at Cenovus Energy, first as the Senior Advisor for GHG, Air, and Renewable Energy, where they led the development of a renewable energy strategy and assessed risks related to emissions. Paul later became the Manager of Sustainability and Environment Integration, where they managed the company's ESG practice and implemented strategies to position Cenovus as a leader in Corporate Responsibility. Currently, Paul is the Vice President of Investments at Alberta Enterprise Corporation, where they focus on building and governing a portfolio of venture funds to support Alberta startups.

Paul Godman has a diverse education history spanning several institutions and fields of study. In 1986 to 1991, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Earth Science from the University of Waterloo. Afterward, they attended the University of Calgary from 1997 to 1999, earning a Master of Science degree in Water Resources Management. In 2001 to 2003, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Haskayne School of Business.

Continuing their education, Paul completed the Private Equity Investment Certificate from the Institutional Limited Partners Association in 2017 to 2018. In 2019, they attended the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, where they earned a Haas Certificate of Business Excellence (COBE) in Venture Capital Executive Education.

Paul also undertook courses in specific fields. Paul completed the Fundamentals of Sustainable Accounting I program from the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (SASB). Additionally, they acquired knowledge in the Canadian Securities Course offered by the Canadian Securities Institute.

Recently, in 2021 to 2022, Paul Godman participated in the ICD.D Directors Education Program at the Institute of Corporate Directors, attaining their accreditation in June 2022. Overall, their education demonstrates a commitment to acquiring expertise in various areas, ranging from earth science and water resources management to business administration and venture capital.
