Superintendent at Albertville City Schools

Entering his 25th year in education, Dr. English has served as a teacher, coach, and administrator during his time as an educator. Ten years of his education career was spent as a high school principal. From 2005-2011, English served as principal of Emanuel County Institute (ECI) with the Emanuel County School System in southeastern Georgia. During his time at ECI, enrollment improved by 25% and the school consistently made AYP. Innovation included implementation of flex-scheduling, middle school concepts, and strategies to encourage student unity/school pride. The greatest transformation being the first integrated prom in school history in 2009.

In 2011, English returned to Alabama to become principal of Charles Henderson High School with the Troy City Schools. During his tenure, the school’s graduation rate increased by 30% points to 88% from 2012-15. Implementation of the Four Pillars of Success with an emphasis on school improvement strategies were instrumental in the academic transformation.

In 2015, Dr. English was named as superintendent of schools of the Crenshaw County School District in south central Alabama. English assessed all cornerstones of the organization and implemented initiatives to transform and rebrand the system into a school system with a foundation set on innovation. To ensure that students had every opportunity to be college and career ready after graduation, The Crenshaw County Virtual School was created and launched in August for the 2016 – 2017 school term.

The Crenshaw County Virtual School currently serves over 150 students in full-virtual, blended, and credit recovery/accelerated classroom settings. The curriculum allowed the rural school system to offer courses in AP/Pre-AP and multiple curriculum pathways. Pathways in STEM, foreign language, and career technical education broadened opportunities for all student. Over the three-year period from 2015-2018, ACT composite scores have increased approximately 2 points and is currently on track to meet/exceed the state average.

Dr. English enrolled in Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA in 2007 receiving his Doctorate of Education in 2010. He holds multiple degrees from Troy University, Auburn University – Montgomery, and Troy University – Dothan. English has also served as an Adjunct Professor in Educational Leadership at Troy University – Dothan.

In January of 2018, English became superintendent of schools of the Albertville City School System. It is his plan to continue to serve the system and community in a capacity that encourages academic growth and opportunity for all students. To accomplish the plan for growth and opportunity, English is committed to fostering civic and community relationships. The need for cornerstones in innovation, creativity, and diversity continue to guide his educational philosophy.
