Chamiza Pacheco De Alas is a Trustee at ALBUQUERQUE ACADEMY. Chamiza was previously the Chief of Staff at The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center from October 2011 to January 2021. In that role, they served as senior advisor to the Chancellor/Executive Vice President and member of the Health Sciences Executive leadership team. Chamiza was responsible for oversight of all public affairs for the HSC including government relations, community engagement, and communications. Chamiza led mission-based special initiatives out of Chancellor’s office including those addressing behavioral health, homelessness, system improvements, and child abuse. Chamiza also managed high-level external and internal relationships on behalf of the EVP/Chancellor. Chamiza analyzed health policy and related issues. Chamiza oversaw the successful passage of several substantive bills and significant increase in appropriations, including funding for a Child Maltreatment Center of Excellence, capital funding for a hospital tower, and Health Equity Scholarships for Medical students. Chamiza managed the community engagement budget of approximately $100,000 and built process for coordinating external affairs amongst the various schools, colleges, departments and programs. Chamiza coordinated on discreet development initiatives with the UNM Foundation and other charitable foundations. Chamiza also lead the Health Sciences UNM Gives campaign which grew campus-wide by $400,000 over three years to almost $1,000,000.
Chamiza Pacheco De Alas received their Doctor of Law from Yale Law School, their BA in Political Science and Economics from The University of New Mexico, and their High School Diploma from Albuquerque Academy.
