Rich Masel has a varied work experience starting from 1996 when they were the CEO of Masel Enterprises, the 6th largest supplier of orthodontic supplies in the world which was later acquired by a general dental supply company in August 1999. Rich was a Founder and CTO of Tekion, where they invented the formic acid fuel cell and led the development of the first working fuel cell power unit for cell phones partnering with Motorola. Rich was a Founder and Chief Technology Officer at cbana labs where they led the development of microGC and banasorb products, developed a strategic alliance with GE and Morpho Detection, and raised over $2,000,000 in grants. Rich was a Fox Professor of Chemical Engineering from 1978-2010 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Rich founded and led Dioxide Materials as Founder and CEO, working on technology for Carbon Dioxide conversion into fuels and chemicals and water electrolysis for energy storage. Rich'swork was featured in Science, Scientific American, Nature Climate Change, Peoples Daily (China), and over 100 other news articles. Presently, they are working as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for Alchemr, a position they assumed recently in 2021. Rich is also Chairman of the Board at Greendrogen since April 2021.
Rich Masel earned their bs/ms degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University during the years of 1968 and 1973. Rich then pursued further education by obtaining a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley from the years of 1973 to 1977.
