Tony Hsu

Founder & Chief Investment Officer at Alethea Capital

As Founder and CIO, Tony is responsible for developing the strategic vision of the company as well as managing and monitoring portfolio assets on behalf of the firm’s clients. Prior to founding Alethea, he served as a Portfolio Manager at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. Tony also spent four years with UBS Financial Services, Inc. as Senior Vice President leading the top producing team in the San Diego region. Previously, from 1999 to 2005, he was employed with Deutsche Bank, managing the portfolios of corporate executives and working closely with Deutsche Bank’s quantitative Global Momentum Group in London to build strategies for the firm’s clientele. Tony’s finance career began at Lehman Brothers in 1997 where he was recruited to re-establish Lehman’s presence in Los Angeles following the company’s spinoff from American Express. He holds the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Examination (Series 65). Tony holds a Bachelor of Arts Political Science degree with an emphasis in International Relations from the University of California, Los Angeles. Tony has mentored many under-served children and has championed financial literacy through his “Five-Dollar Challenge™” which has been delivered to hundreds of young adults. He is the Co-Founder of Just In Time For Foster Youth, a leading nonprofit organization that’s been recognized for its significant contributions to San Diego’s emancipated foster youth. He is the Founder and President of the FWD Corporation, a 501(c)(3) organization which supports nonprofit programs and organizations that are driving positive change for at-risk youth. Tony served as Co-Chair of the Nonprofit Institute Advisory Board at the University of San Diego between 2012-2017 and currently serves on several private company boards. He splits his time between San Diego and Seattle where he resides with his wife, three sons, and daughter.
