Ray Chay has a diverse professional background with experience in various industries. Ray is currently the Co-Founder and CEO of Alex Crown, a retailer of luxury menswear and accessories. Prior to this, they worked as a Principal at Chay Capital, a private investment firm that focuses on niche markets in fashion, healthcare, lifestyle brands, and fintech.
Before their role at Chay Capital, Ray served as the SVP of Product and Operations at OppFi, an online financial services company that provides loans to the underserved. Ray was responsible for ensuring excellent customer service and leveraging data analytics and technology to drive growth.
Ray also has experience in the non-profit sector, having served on the Board of Directors and as the Finance Chair and Strategy & Operations (S&O) Co-Chair at Dare2tri Paratriathlon Club. This Chicago-based nonprofit aims to empower athletes with physical disabilities or visual impairments through the sport of Paratriathlon.
Additionally, Ray worked as a Special Assistant to the Chairman at GVW Group, a private investment firm and family office with a track record of innovation. Ray also served as the CFO of Gozent, a technology startup that provides real estate leasing solutions.
Earlier in their career, Ray was a Senior Associate at Enova, a global financial services provider, where they were responsible for financial analysis, corporate development, and market research. Ray also worked at Ernst & Young (EY) as a Senior Associate in the Transaction Advisory Services and Assurance Services divisions, where they provided financial due diligence and M&A consulting services.
Before entering the corporate world, Ray served in the Singapore Armed Forces as a Corporal, where they gained experience in logistics, international military seminars, and collaboration with the United Nations and the US Military. Overall, Ray's work experience demonstrates their expertise in finance, investment, strategy, operations, and leadership roles across various industries.
Ray Chay completed their education in three different institutions. Ray began their academic journey at The Chinese High School from 1995 to 1998, where they obtained their GCE "O" Levels. Following that, they attended Raffles Institution for one year, from 1999 to 2000, earning their GCE "A" Levels in English Literature, Economics, and Mathematics. Lastly, Ray pursued higher education at the Gies College of Business - University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they studied Accounting and Finance. Ray attended this college from 2003 to 2007, ultimately obtaining a degree in Accounting and Finance.
