Almut Caspary has extensive work experience in various roles related to strategic planning, grants management, and science policy. Almut currently serves as the Head of Strategic Planning at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation since September 2022. Prior to this, they were the Head of Grants at the Max Delbrück Center from October 2021 to September 2022. Almut also worked as the HE & Science Lead for the EU Region at the British Council from January 2018 to October 2021. In addition, they held the position of Head of Grants & Research Partnerships at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences from October 2013 to December 2017. Almut has also worked in science policy and strategy management at the Max Delbrück Center from July 2010 to September 2013. Before that, they served as a Science Manager at FMP Berlin from June 2008 to June 2010. Almut's career also includes a role as a Visiting Lecturer at the Institute for the History of Medicine, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin from April 2008 to April 2009. Almut gained research experience as an Expert Researcher at Barbara Burford Consulting Ltd from September 2007 to March 2008. Almut worked as a Research Fellow at the ESRC Genomics Policy and Research Forum from January 2005 to July 2007. Almut also had a placement fellowship at the Scottish Executive (SE) Office of the Permanent Secretary: Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser from March 2007 to June 2007.
Almut Caspary obtained their Ph.D. in the Ethics of Medical Science from King's College London, where they studied from 2000 to 2008.
