Nikolay Koldunov is a Senior Scientist at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, a position held since August 2022. Prior experience includes serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the same institute from October 2016 to June 2022, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Climate Service Center 2.0 from October 2014 to October 2016. Nikolay's research journey began with a Post-Doc position at the Institute of Oceanography at Hamburg University from February 2010 to September 2014, following a PhD student role at the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology from March 2006 to February 2010. Early academic pursuits include a PhD student position at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute from June 2004 to March 2006. Educational qualifications consist of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Oceanography from the University of Hamburg (2006-2020), and Master of Science degrees in Physical Oceanography with a focus on Polar Research from the University of Bremen (2004-2006) and Saint Petersburg State University (1998-2004).
