Jake Herman

Senior Scientist at Algen Biotechnologies

Jake Herman has a comprehensive work experience spanning different roles and companies. Jake most recently worked at Algen Biotechnologies as a Senior Scientist starting in April 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Fred Hutch as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from April 2015 to March 2022, where they specialized in high-throughput functional genetic screening, biochemistry, and fluorescence microscopy. Jake also developed CRISPR-Cas9 mediated genetic screening approaches and identified anti-mitotic cancer therapeutics. Before that, Jake was a PhD Candidate at Colorado State University from August 2010 to March 2015, where they focused on understanding mitotic changes in tumorigenesis and discovering protein targets for selective chemotherapeutics. Jake began their career as an Undergraduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Western Washington University from September 2007 to June 2010, conducting research on computational algorithms and managing the writing center. Jake also had a student intern position at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in June 2007, where they assisted with sample preparation and operated an X-Ray Photoelectron Spectrometer.

Jake Herman completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Western Washington University, which they attended from 2006 to 2010. Jake then pursued further education and earned their Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Colorado State University, where they studied from 2010 to 2015.
