Rob Austin has a diverse work experience in the field of retirement research and consulting. Rob started their career as a Mathematics Teacher at Charlottesville High School from August 1996 to June 1998. Rob then joined Mercer as a Retirement Actuary and Consultant, working from August 1998 to April 2005. After that, they worked at Aon Hewitt, initially as a Partner and Consulting Actuary from May 2005 to September 2013, and later as the Director of Retirement Research from September 2013 to June 2017. Currently, they are the Head of Research at Alight Solutions since June 2017. Throughout their career, Rob has been involved in developing and publishing reports on retirement plan designs and participant behavior, and they are known for inventing "The Plan Efficiency Score," a quantitative measure for 401(k) plan sponsors to evaluate the impact of their contributions on participants' retirement income. Rob is also actively engaged as a retirement spokesperson for Aon Hewitt, frequently speaking at conferences and interacting with the media and lawmakers.

Rob Austin attended the American University from 1990 to 1994, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Rob then pursued further education and completed a Master of Education degree with a focus on Mathematics Education at the University of Virginia from 2005 to 2008. In 1994, they also spent a year studying Mathematics at the Louisiana State University.
