Riz Siddiqi, PhD, has a diverse work experience in the field of ophthalmology and medical science. Riz currently serves as the Medical Director for the UK & Eire at Alimera Sciences and previously worked as the EMEA Medical Advisor for the same company. Prior to this, they were an Independent Consultant, providing ophthalmic education and advice.
From 2019 to 2020, Riz Siddiqi worked as a Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where they played a key role in redesigning and updating their ultrasound service using an AI approach. Riz developed clinical strategies, engaged with patients, and mentored staff.
Before joining Moorfields, Riz Siddiqi worked as the Director of Clinical Affairs at Boomo Consulting from 2017 to 2019. In this role, they provided medical and scientific strategic direction related to eye health issues and was responsible for various tasks such as medical writing, project coordination, and representing the company at industry meetings.
From 2015 to 2017, Riz Siddiqi worked as a Senior Medical Science Liaison at Alliance Pharmaceuticals Limited, where they provided medical and scientific information regarding ocular nutrition and age-related macular degeneration.
Riz also has extensive experience at Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, where they held multiple roles from 1997 to 2017. These roles included being a Senior Clinical Scientist and an NIHR Clinical Doctorate Research Fellow, where they completed their PhD in Anterior segment morphology in Angle Closure.
Additionally, Riz Siddiqi has worked in various positions at BMEC and Selly Oak Hospital, where they focused on clinical effectiveness, orthoptics, and patient care.
Riz Siddiqi, PhD pursued a range of educational endeavors starting from their A levels at King Edward VI School For Girls - Birmingham, which they completed between 1983 and 1990. Riz then went on to obtain a BSc Hons degree in Orthoptics from the University of Liverpool, where they studied from 1994 to 1997. Following this, Riz Siddiqi pursued a City of guilds degree in Teacher training adult education at Bournville College from 1999 to 2000. Riz expanded their knowledge in the field of ophthalmology by earning an MSc degree in Investigative ophthalmology & vision science from The University of Manchester from 2000 to 2002. Finally, they completed their academic journey with a PhD in Anterior Segment Morphology in Angle Closure from The University of Manchester between 2011 and 2015.
