Bart Deplancke

Co-Founder at Alithea Genomics

Bart Deplancke's work experience includes serving as the Vice Dean of Innovation and a Full Professor at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) since September 2018 and January 2020, respectively. Bart is also a Co-Founder of Alithea Genomics, a company focused on high throughput transcriptomics, since April 2020. Prior to this, they worked as a Group Leader at SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics starting in 2013. From October 2014 to December 2019, they held the position of Associate Professor at EPFL. Bart has also served as a Board Member and Chairman of the Board at Genohm from April 2011 to May 2018 and January 2016 to December 2016, respectively. Before their roles at EPFL and Genohm, they were an Assistant Professor at EPFL from November 2007 to September 2014. Bart'searlier experience includes being a Post-doc at UMass Medical School from May 2003 to August 2007, working on gene regulatory networks in C. elegans, and a Post-doc at Harvard Medical School from September 2002 to May 2003. Bart Deplancke also received a Biomedical Engineering Kind Baudouin Fellowship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation, Inc. in 2002.

Bart Deplancke pursued their education from 1993 to 1998 at Ghent University, where they obtained a Bio-engineer degree focusing on Biochemistry and engineering. Bart then furthered their studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1998 to 2002, earning a Ph.D. in the fields of immunobiology, molecular biology, and microbiology.
