Riccardo Dainese

CEO & Co-Founder at Alithea Genomics

Riccardo Dainese is the CEO and Co-Founder of Alithea Genomics. Riccardo was previously with the Biophotonics research group at Chalmers University and iGEM Competition. Riccardo has a degree in Biomedical Engineering from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne.

Riccardo Dainese has always been interested in how things work and how they can be improved. This led him to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. During their time at university, they did an internship with the Biophotonics research group at Chalmers University. There, they worked on the development of two gradient generators, one for a linear gradient and the second for a 2-fold logarithmic gradient. The goal of this project was to devise an efficient tool for studies of mammalian cell response and chemotaxis along gradients of chemoattractants or repellants.

After graduation, Riccardo Dainese joined iGEM Competition as part of the Team Gothenburg 2014. The team's project, "Yeast age counter", won the Best Foundational Advance Project award. The project involved building a synthetic gene circuit that would make yeast cells express a different fluorescent protein depending on how many generations the cell has already undergone. This age counter would allow quick and easy fluorescence based separation of yeast cells coming from an age-wise heterogeneous population.

In 2015, Riccardo Dainese co-founded

Riccardo Dainese has a Nanodegree in Machine Learning from Udacity, a Master in Nanotechnology from Chalmers University of Technology, and a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical engineering from Politecnico di Torino. Riccardo also has a certification from Coursera in Machine Learning.
