Olena Gorbenko

Scientist II at AlivaMab Discovery Services

Olena is a part of the antibody discovery team at AlivaMab Discovery Services (ADS), where she supports antibody generation. She has a background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetic engineering, with over 20 years of experience in life sciences at leading research centers in Canada and Europe. Olena received her master’s degree in biology from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, and her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Ukraine, where she gained skills in hybridoma techniques. She conducted her first postdoctoral research at the University College London (London, UK) where she performed the adaptation of the basic hybridoma technique to produce conformation-specific antibodies to cancer-associated receptors. Her second postdoc was in the Immunology lab at the Universiteit Medisch Centrum (Utrecht, NL) and her third postdoc was at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Toronto, Canada), where she studied the tumor suppressor PTEN network. Before joining ADS, Olena worked as a Project Coordinator for the collaborative initiative between the University of Toronto, Rosetta Therapeutics, and Cyclica which was funded by Genome Canada to identify novel small molecules enhancing the mitophagy for Parkinson’s disease drug discovery.

Olena has experience with various cell-based assays, high-throughput screening using different cell and animal models, and project management.
