Dr. Michael O'Brien

Dr. Michael O'Brien has had a varied and extensive work experience. In 2021, they began working as a Strategic Account Manager for Alliance Enterprises, Inc. and as Adjunct Faculty for Western New Mexico U. In 2020, they were the Administrator Rehabilliation Services Unit for the New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. In 2018, they were an Associate Professor Of Psychology and Counseling for Mid-America Christian University. From 2013 to 2016, they were the owner of O'Brien Professional Services, LLC, a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for PROS and Associates, and an Assistant Professor/Program Coordinator Undergraduate Rehabiliation and Disability Studies for Southern University. From 2015 to 2016, they were an Acting Progam Coordinator Rehabilitation Counseling and a Visiting Associate Professor for New Mexico Highlands University. From 2008 to 2013, they were the Director for the Department of Rehabilitation Services. From 2005 to 2008, they were an Associate professor/Acting Department Chair for New Mexico Highlands University.

Dr. Michael O'Brien has an extensive education history. Dr. Michael obtained a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1981. Dr. Michael then attended Emporia State University from 1976-1980, studying Psychology. In 1983-1985, they earned an M.A.Ed. in Career/Vocational Guidance from Chadron State College. In 1996-2001, they obtained an Ed.D. in Occupational and Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Michael also completed a Graduate Certificate in Executive Leadership Development from the University of Oklahoma in 1998-1999 and a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership for State Executives from DUKE Governor's Center for the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy in 1997. In 1994-1995, they attended the Center for Rehabiliation Studies at the University of North Texas. Lastly, in 1984, they completed a training program at Fountain House. In addition to their educational qualifications, Dr. O'Brien holds two certifications: Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist (CVE) from the CRCC (Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification), obtained in March 2022 and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) from the CRCC (Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification), obtained in November 2018.
