Steve Spiker has over 18 years of professional experience in the technology and data fields. In 2019, they began working as the Chief of Product and Technology and Chief Data Officer & Chief Privacy Officer at Alluma, where they developed the company's first Data Strategy, hired a data analytics team, and created a nimble data infrastructure. From 2018-2019, they served as the Data Evangelist at Measures for Justice. From 2006-2018, they worked at the Urban Strategies Council as the Research & Technology Director, managing research and data projects, data warehousing, and technology systems and vendors. From 2012-2018, they were the Executive Director/Founder at OpenOakland, a volunteer led and staffed group of technologists supporting open government, open public data, and civic innovation. From 2011-2012, they were a Program Mentor at Code for America, and from 2010-2011, they were on the National Executive Committee at the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership. From 2008-2010, they were a Volunteer at Elevate Youth Group. From 2003-2006, they worked at the North Metro Population Health Unit & State Dept of Health as a Spatial Analyst & Spatial Epidemiologist, doing GIS and spatial analysis of epidemiology data and public health programs. Finally, from 2001-2003, they worked at Guinness as an IT Support.
Steve Spiker obtained a Master's in Geographic Information Science from Curtin University in 2006, having previously completed a Bachelor's in Surveying and Mapping from the same institution in 1996. In 2021, they obtained a Scrum Product Owner certification from Mountain Goat Software. In 2008, they were awarded a Geographic Information Systems Professional certification from GISCI.
