Jur Vellema has a diverse work history in the medical and business fields. Jur started their career as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital Utrecht in 2006, specializing in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery. Jur then moved on to work as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at St.Anna Zorggroep from 2007 to 2012. In 2012, they joined Kliniek ViaSana as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and has remained in that role since. In 2016, Vellema pursued further education and completed a Master's in Business Administration at VvAA Business School from 2016 to 2018. Jur then co-founded Gezond is beter BV in 2018 and served as the CEO and Co-founder until November 2020. Concurrently, they also joined AlphaBeats in 2019, initially as the CMEDO and later became a Co-founder and CMEDO in October 2020.

Jur Vellema's education history begins in 1992 when they enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam to pursue their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in the field of Medicine. After completing their MD, they attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 as a research fellow in orthopaedics, where they focused on studying strain patterns in the patellar tendon.

In 1999, Jur Vellema also served as an orthopaedic resident at Elkerliek Hospital. Continuing their medical education, they completed a General Surgery training at Elisabeth Hospital Tilburg from 2000 to 2002. Subsequently, they obtained a degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from Mmc Veldhoven / AZM Maastricht from 2002 to 2006.

Seeking further specialization, Jur Vellema pursued an arthroscopy fellowship in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery at Arthroscopy Fellowship UMCU Utrecht from 2006 to 2007. In 2013, they attended Fontys Hogeschool Eindhoven, focusing on msk (musculoskeletal) echografie.

Later, from 2016 to 2018, Jur Vellema pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in management in healthcare at VVAA Businessschool. In 2021, they continued their education at European University of applied sciences with the module "Digitalisation in health" as part of their Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
