Director Of Cell Development at Alsym Energy

Rob Atkinson is a seasoned professional in the energy and materials research field, currently serving as the Prototype Development Manager and R&D Group Leader at Alsym Energy since January 2021. At Alsym Energy, Rob focuses on the development of innovative rechargeable batteries aimed at promoting a zero-carbon electrified future using safe materials. Prior to this, Rob held the position of Senior Power & Energy Researcher at Excet, Incorporated, where research encompassed lithium metal anodes and Li-ion battery enhancements. From September 2015 to September 2018, Rob was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, concentrating on improving the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Rob's academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where dissertation work involved the synthesis and application of electrocatalysts, supplemented by a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Wake Forest University.

Alsym™ Energy has developed an innovative, inexpensive, high-performance rechargeable energy storage technology that’s free of lithium and cobalt, and ideal for a range of stationary storage use cases, including utility grids, home storage, microgrids, industrial applications, and more. This will be followed by future products for marine applications and EVs including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and passenger vehicles. Alsym batteries avoid many of the issues that surround lithium-ion batteries and uses no lithium or cobalt. They are non-flammable and non-toxic by design, and are built using readily available materials with robust, uncomplicated supply chains.
