Wei Guo

Principal Modeling & Data Engineer at Altaeros Energies

Wei Guo has a diverse work experience across multiple companies. Wei started their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Gas Turbine Laboratory at MIT, where they focused on optimizing centrifugal compressor return channel design. During their time at MIT, Wei developed and enhanced algorithms for mesh manipulation and utilized C/C++, Python, shell script, and Matlab.

After their tenure at MIT, Wei joined Altaeros Energies as an Aerodynamicist, where they contributed to the development of the world's first commercial airborne wind turbine. Wei conducted aerodynamic performance evaluations and partnered with senior team members in turbine prototype construction and testing.

Wei then moved on to COMSOL, Inc., where they worked as an Applications Engineer. In this role, they leveraged their expertise in CFD and optimization to support customers globally. Wei handled technical support cases, taught workshops and courses, and built proof-of-concept models, gaining additional expertise in areas such as multiphase flow and weak form FEM.

Currently, Wei is employed at Altaeros as a Lead Modeling & Data Engineer. Prior to this role, they served as a Sr Dynamics Modeling Engineer at the same company. In both positions, Wei designed and developed flight-proven multiphysics dynamics models, control algorithms, and big-data analysis tools using MATLAB/Simulink. Wei provided key analyses for mechanical design, control software tuning, and business demos. Wei also explored innovative technologies like computer vision, stochastic modeling, and machine learning for future model and control design.

Wei Guo obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University in the years 2007 to 2011. In 2009, Wei Guo participated in an exchange program at the Georgia Institute of Technology, studying Mechanical Engineering. Later, from 2011 to 2013, Wei Guo pursued a Master of Science degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
