Juan Tavarez

Project Program Coordinator at AltaMed

Juan Tavarez has a diverse work experience history. Juan started their career in 2015 as a University Ambassador and Student Intern at UC Santa Barbara, where they guided visitors around campus and provided information about university resources and services. During this time, they also worked as a Front Office Assistant, handling customer inquiries and performing administrative tasks.

In 2019, Juan worked as a Spanish Interpreter at local elementary schools, assisting with parent-teacher conferences and ensuring effective communication between families and teachers. Juan also served as a Research Intern, conducting a qualitative research project focused on gender and sexuality in the Americas.

In 2020, Juan joined AltaMed Health Services as a Community Health Fellow/Health Navigator, participating in a fellowship program and assisting with the Health Equity Navigator program. Juan later worked as a Project Intern, helping to organize a virtual conference for nursing students.

Currently, Juan is a Project Program Coordinator at AltaMed Health Services, where they coordinate and facilitates various pipeline programs and mentors social work students from USC. Juan also assists with onboarding and internship coordination, demonstrating effective leadership and interpersonal skills.

Throughout their work experience, Juan has consistently displayed strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills. Juan has participated in professional development programs, research seminars, and workshops related to health equity and social determinants of health.

Juan Tavarez completed their Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Chicana/o/x Studies, along with minors in Educational and LGBTQ+ Studies at UC Santa Barbara. This academic journey took place from 2014 to 2020.
