Dr. Joel Hanson has extensive experience in the field of addiction medicine and mental health. Dr. Joel currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Altium Health, where they are responsible for office-based addiction treatment, telemedicine, and providing medical and administrative assistance for various programs. Prior to this, they were the Medical Director at Corner Canyon Recovery and the Medical Director at Ascendant Behavioral Health Clinics. Dr. Hanson has also worked in private practice addiction medicine and held roles as a Medical Doctor at Highland Ridge Hospital, Director of Ambulatory Detox at White Tree Medical, Psychiatrist at Wasatch Mental Health and Shadow Mountain Recovery, and Founder/Owner/Medical Director at St. George Detox Hospital. Additionally, they served as the Medical Director at True North Treatment Centers.

Dr. Joel Hanson earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1990. Dr. Joel then completed their Internship in Internal Medicine at Columbia University in 1991. From 1991 to 1996, Dr. Hanson pursued a Dual Residency program in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Joel also obtained certifications in Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) in December 2012 and in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. in December 1998. Furthermore, they hold a Telemedicine certification from the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department, obtained in July 2013. Dr. Hanson is also licensed as a Physician & Surgeon in Utah and New Mexico, a licensure obtained in January 1991 from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.
