Altronic LLC

1953 Work commenced in downtown Youngstown, Ohio on a revolutionary, transistorized, continuous spark ignition system that used a continuous alternating current discharge across the spark electrodes. 1955 The Economy Engine Company was founded to commercialize the continuous spark ignition system. 1964 The Economy Engine Company moved to new facilities in Liberty Township, Ohio, a suburb of Youngstown. The company focus shifted to filling the need for a reliable ignition system to replace magnetos on critical, continuous operation industrial engines. 1969 The Altronic Division moved to a 10,000 sq ft facility, its current location at 712 Trumbull Avenue in Girard, Ohio. 1977 The plant was physically expanded by an additional 2000 sq ft. 1981 Production facilities were doubled to 24,000 sq ft, with an additional 4,000 sq ft acquired the following year in a nearby facility to house the new digital instrument division. 1984 The Altronic Division of the Economy Engine Company became Altronic, Inc. 1986 The digital instrumentation production facility was enlarged to 16,000 sq ft. 1988 Altronic Controls, a wholly-owned subsidiary, was established in Garland, Texas, to design and manufacture customer gas compressor monitoring and control packages. 1994 A major expansion combined the two separate production facilities into a single, 52,000 sq ft plant. 1996 An 8,500 sq ft Engineering and Development Center was constructed on newly-acquired land near the production facility. 2006 State-of-the-art ignition coil manufacturing was initiated in the Girard facility in a new 12,000 sq ft production area. 2009 Altronic was purchased by HOERBIGER Holding AG, Zug, Switzerland and became the lead plant of the new Engine Solutions business unit. 2010 Altronic, Inc. transitioned to Altronic, LLC. and an 8,500 sq ft addition to the Engineering facility was made to house the Altronic Sales and Service departments. 2016 Altronic, LLC, became part of the HOERBIGER Engine Division.
