Prof. Dr. Ume Sughra has a diverse work experience in the field of research and clinical trials. They started their career as a Public Health Professional and later became a Professor of Public Health at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital. They also served as a Principal Investigator at various clinical trial sites, including Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and the Clinical Trial Site of the Health Services Academy in Islamabad. In addition, they held the role of Director of Research at Al-Shifa Research Centre. Prof. Dr. Ume Sughra has been involved in multiple clinical trials and research projects, including a Phase lll clinical trial on the effect of Bifidobacterium supplementation on weight gain in underweight infants. They are also a member of the Senate of Health Services Academy.
Prof. Dr. Ume Sughra has a comprehensive education background in the field of medicine and public health. Prof. Dr. Ume obtained their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from AMC Rawalpindi in 2005. Prof. Dr. Ume further pursued their Master of Public Health (MPH) from AFPGMI, UHS Lahore in 2010. In 2011, they completed their FCPS Community Medicine degree from CPSP Karachi. Continuing their academic journey, they earned the FRCP degree from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in 2021. Recently, they completed their MCPS-HPE from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in 2022.
Prof. Dr. Ume Sughra has also obtained additional certifications in the field. Prof. Dr. Ume received a Certificate of Appreciation from the World Health Organization in 2022 for conducting Lot Quality Assessment of Immunization Campaign. In 2017, they completed a certification in Nutrition and Wellbeing from the University of Aberdeen through FutureLearn.
