Mikala Johnson

Mikala Johnson, Ph.D., is a Senior Ground Systems Engineer at Amazon, effective January 2024. Previously, Mikala held various roles at Kymeta Corporation from September 2012 to January 2024, including Principal Systems Engineer for LEO systems, where responsibilities included cross-functional workstreams for LEO-capable user terminals, focusing on software and algorithms for mobile LEO acquisition and tracking. Additional positions at Kymeta included Product Manager, Solutions Engineering Manager, Senior Solutions Engineer, and Mathematical Modeling Specialist, contributing to product development, customer evaluations, and innovative algorithm designs. Mikala's earlier experience includes a Research Associate role at the University of Washington, a Mathematical Modeling Intern at Intellectual Ventures, and an Industrial Engineering Intern at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Mikala earned a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington, along with an MS in Applied Mathematics and a BS in Industrial Engineering from New Mexico State University.
