Ashwin Kaja currently serves as the Senior Trade Representative to China at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative since January 2025. Prior to this role, Ashwin was the General Counsel for the American Chamber of Commerce in China from August 2021 to January 2025, where oversight of legal affairs and support for nearly one thousand members took place. Ashwin also held the position of Of Counsel at Covington & Burling LLP, co-leading the China trade policy practice and advising clients on international legal issues related to trade and investment. Academic contributions include serving as a Visiting Professor/Scholar at Renmin University of China and Jindal Global University, developing innovative programs in international negotiations. Additional experience encompasses roles at Hogan Lovells, Investours, and various internships emphasizing legal and regulatory compliance, advocacy, and development project assessments. Ashwin Kaja holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Government from Harvard University.
