AME Community Services

Our agency began providing services for people with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) in 1992. Over the years we have grown from serving a handful of individuals with PWS to serving a variety of diagnoses, among them, Autism, Down's Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and we have become a well known and respected provider in the Prader-Willi community. We currently have 16 residential homes in Buffalo, Monticello, Cokato, as well as all around the Metro area. We also provide in home services for individuals and families in many of these areas. Each home has a maximum of four residents. When establishing a home, we attempt to match the residents according to their abilities, interests, and personalities. Each home is structured according to the needs of the people living in it. Dignity and respect are given to the needs, values, and characteristics of these individuals and their families. Eight of our 16 homes are currently restricted to people with PWS or moderate PWS symptoms. In these homes we provide a highly structured plan, which involves prescribed diets and tailored exercise and weight management plans. AME provides a membership at a local health club for each home. Residents are rewarded for participation in the exercise program. Our staff is trained to deal with challenging behaviors, meet medical needs, and foster a friendly and supportive living environment. We focus on positive behavior management and programing. AME provides consultation and training to other agencies and individuals. Our services are initiated through referrals from County Case Management and funded by the Home and Community Based Waiver Program.
