John P. McCarthy

John P. McCarthy is an experienced theatre and film critic, currently serving as an Associate New York Theatre Critic for OnStage Blog since September 2017 and a Theater Critic for The Journal News since May 2012. McCarthy has contributed to Catholic News Service as a Film Critic since January 2006, reviewing movies and DVD releases, and has been a Contributor to America Magazine since January 1999, focusing on media and entertainment essays. Previously, McCarthy worked as a Contributing Writer for BoxOffice.com from 2006 to 2011 and served as Editor & Publisher for Cineman Syndicate LLC between January 1999 and February 2010. Additional roles include Media Correspondent for Catholic Digest magazine and Freelance TV critic for Daily Variety. McCarthy's educational background includes a Postgraduate Research degree from the University of Cambridge, emphasizing Film Theory and Criticism, and a B.A. in Honors English & Philosophy from Georgetown University.
