Karen Collias is currently a Trustee at the American College of Sofia. Prior to that, they served as Deputy Director and Consultant at the Smithsonian Institution's Science Education Center, where they provided research, writing, and strategic planning skills. Karen is also an expert at translational research and has conceptualized and written case studies, statistical compilations, and grant reports for a variety of education and corporate audiences and the public. Karen has also facilitated national and international education conferences.
Before their work at the Smithsonian, Karen was Program Director at the World Affairs Council, where they managed a division that developed 100 business-sponsored programs yearly for citizen education on global affairs. Karen also wrote winning grant proposals, moderated debates and speeches of prominent industry and financial leaders, academics, and government officials, developed and implemented high-impact conferences, and led a Council trip to Russia.
Most recently, Karen served as a Consultant to the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity at Princeton University.
Karen Collias has a Ph.D. in Comparative Politics and Education from Columbia University, an M.Ed. in Comparative and International Education from Boston University, and a Certificate in Russian Language and Literature from the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. Karen also has a B.A. in Theirtory and Journalism from the University of Minnesota. Karen is certified in Philanthropy and Fundraising from New York University.
