Dan Slater

Nonresident Fellow, Foreign And Defense Policy Studies at American Enterprise Institute

Dan Slater is a prominent political scientist currently serving as a Nonresident Fellow in Foreign and Defense Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute since May 2021. In addition, Slater has been the Director of the Center for Emerging Democracies and holds the title of James Orin Murfin Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan since July 2017. Previously, Slater was a Nonresident Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace from September 2019 to May 2021 and served as an Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for International Social Science Research at the University of Chicago from July 2005 to June 2017. Slater earned a Ph.D. in Political Science and Government from Emory University, a Master of Arts in International/Global Studies from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
