Bruce H. Curran

Bruce H. Curran earned graduate degrees in Engineering Science (Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, 1982) and Computer Science (Northeastern University, 1993). He has been involved in clinical and research aspects of medical physics since 1973 and currently serves as Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University and Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology in Radiological Physics, a Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. He is a 2014 recipient of the Edith H. Quimby Lifetime Achievement Award of the AAPM.

He has been active with the American Institute of Physics since 1993, serving on the Database and Online Services Subcommittee (1993-99), Publishing Policy Committee (1994-99), Board of Governors (2006-14), Executive Committee (2008-11), Physics Today Advisory Committee (2013-15) and Audit Committee (2012-14). He is active in the AAPM, having served on the Board of Directors as a Member, Secretary (1991-93), and as President (2016). He has served in several positions with the American College of Radiology and the American Society for Radiation Oncology. He is a Member of the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) International Board representing Radiation Oncology.

Bruce’s research interests center on improving quality systems and interoperability of information systems in radiation oncology.
