Julieta Mendez has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Starting from 2004, they served as a Program Officer at the International Community Foundation. In 2010, they joined MAAC Project as the Community Relations & Development Manager, where they successfully launched the development/fundraising department. In 2011, Julieta worked as a Consultant in a self-employed capacity.
In 2011, they also joined the Foundation Center as the Development Associate, and went on to become the User Engagement and Outreach Specialist in 2013, and then the Manager of Network Engagement in 2015. As the Manager of Network Engagement, they led the development of a plan for shared content development and delivery, revenue acquisition, and pricing, and also developed a marketing and communications plan for capacity-building programs.
In 2017, Julieta became the Manager of Programs at the Foundation Center, managing a sales budget of $300,000 USD for Online Learning and contracts. Julieta also served as the department's global partnerships liaison, working closely with colleagues on projects involving programs and services beyond the US, particularly in Latin America.
From 2017 to 2022, Julieta worked at Candid. Julieta first held the role of Director of Programs, overseeing the design and delivery of capacity-building courses and programs across multiple offices and platforms, including in-person and online. Julieta also designed and delivered complex trainings to staff of foundations and nonprofits in Latin America, and was accountable for over $500,000 in revenue.
Later, they became the Senior Director of Programs at Candid, and then the Sr. Director of Network Engagement, leading Candid's network of 400 partners and a team of trainers. In this role, they connected the social sector to necessary resources, provided access to tools and curriculum, and built the capacity of the sector.
Currently, Julieta Mendez is working as the Associate Vice President for Programs at American Jewish World Service (AJWS), starting in 2022.
Julieta Mendez holds a Master's degree in International Development and Nonprofit Management from the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS). Before that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from UC Santa Barbara. In addition to their formal education, Julieta has obtained various certifications, including the FDO Trainer Certification and FDO Expert Certification from the Foundation Center in 2018. Julieta also holds a Certificate in Global Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has pursued further studies in Fundraising Management at the Indiana University School of Fundraising Management and Impact Measurement & Reporting at the Baruch School of Public Affairs.
